Gefesselt, gehenkt, verrenkt, vergewaltigt, erschossen, erwürgt, erstochen – tot tot tot. In seinem Kompilationsfilm montiert Soldat Aufnahmen ermordeter Frauen, wie sie in der bundesdeutschen Krimiserie „Ein Fall für Zwei“ in den Jahren 1981 bis 2012 gezeigt wurden. Die Körper gern leicht bekleidet, oft in Reizwäsche oder gleich ganz nackt. Männer, die an ihnen herumhantieren; Fotoapparate, die klicken. Sieben ungeheuerliche Minuten lang das kulturhistorisch relevante Motiv der „schönen Toten“ – entlarvt als perverse Lust am Femizid. (Alexandra Seitz)

In the latest of his analytic montage films, Jan Soldat examines the role of dead women in popular narrative. The clips all originate from the German TV series A Case For Two, and it soon becomes clear that the women themselves are of no importance. They exist merely as corpses to discover, a crime that sets the police procedures in motion that are the true star of the show. Soldat finds that the only variation lies in how the women are dispatched: shot, stabbed, strangled, drowned; all resolutely silent. DIE SCHÖNE TOTE is both tribute and indictment.
