Popsicles

Einen „Rosenkranz des Alarms“ nennt die 1980 aus San Francisco nach Chile zurückgekehrte Videokünstlerin Gloria Camiruaga ihren dort während der Pinochet-Diktatur realisierten Film. Dazu passen die auf der Tonspur gemurmelten Ave Marias. Die Perlen der Kette sind an knallbuntem Steckerl-Eis schleckende, mit Lippenstift erotisch markierte Mädchenmünder. Doch die Leckerei birgt störende Fremdkörper. Ein ebenso minimalistischer wie vielsinnig schillernder Loop – gut auch als Installation denkbar – zu Militär, Gender-Markierungen und Kirche. In POPSICLES, Gloria Camiruaga films her teenage daughters reciting the Hail Mary while licking popsicles containing little plastic soldiers, an innocent act which alludes to the ever-present threat of brutal violence hanging over women in Pinochet’s reign. Camiruaga was a Chilean filmmaker and video artist whose work radically critiqued the dictatorship, patriarchy and the social turmoil that resulted from neoliberalism. She collaborated with fellow politically outspoken artists, including The Mares of the Apocalypse, Lotty Rosenfeld, and Diamela Eltit. (Dominga Sotomayor)
