SINCERO, APAIXONADO is a cinematic response to a diary found in Fundão, Portugal, penned by an anonymous vagrant. Men’s voices read entries centred on a fractured love story, their words set against sweeping Portuguese landscapes that seem to flow both towards and away from the events and emotions addressed. While the diary’s lyrical allure is undeniable, its masculine, narcissistic undertones are equally alluded to. This homespun travelogue sustains that ambivalence, as it sketches a portrait of Portugal both romantic and self-questioning. (Salvador Amores)
