Daria's Night Flowers

An artist and filmmaker working at the crossroad of speculative fiction, archival research and poetry, Maryam Tafakory draws on and inverts examples of patriarchal oppression and acts of erasure from Iranian post-revolutionary cinema. Images of sedated women are interwoven with a stunning collection of floral images and ambiguously poetic prescriptions to build a story of forbidden desire and recovered agency. DARIA’S NIGHT FLOWERS brilliantly epitomises women’s tragic state as Iranian cinema’s pharmakon: poison, scapegoat and remedy. (Antoine Thirion)
