Auf der Rückseite der Landschaft
The B-side of the landscape
Gerd Roscher lives in northern Germany, in a forest far removed from the world. A filmmaker, he deserves to be better known: his films are beautiful and often retrace the journeys of illustrious men such as Antonin Artaud and Walter Benjamin. Philipp Hartmann, who studied under the master, glimpsed a paradox. Roscher, the adventurer, drives 100 kilometres to take his wife—who cannot get to work on her own—to Brunsbüttel, then waits for her in a supermarket car park. What might Roscher have to say about time, space and landscape from the very heart of a non-place? (Roger Koza)
