Saving Some Random Insignificant Stories

Anna Vasof bewegt sich mit ihrer Kamera durch das Haus ihrer Familie, das nach einer Überschwemmung fußtief im Wasser steht und unbewohnbar geworden ist. Dabei erfasst sie Möbel und Gegenstände, im Wortsinne Erinnerungs-Stücke an ihre Kindheit und Jugend. Alles ist mit einer Schicht aus Matsch und Lehm überzogen, die die Dinge zerstört und zugleich betonhart konserviert. Die humorvoll-ironische Kommentierung des Gezeigten zeichnet nach, wie unser Erinnern, einer erstarrten Hülle gleich, die realen, längst verlorenen Gegenstände überformt. (Barbara Kronsfoth)

In her latest film, Anna Vasof returns to the house where she grew up and where her parents still lived until December 2021, when their home was destroyed by floodwaters. Two days later, when the water subsided, Vasof entered the home to assess the damage, which was nearly total. As she looks at a lifetime’s worth of objects encased in hard mud, she recounts the various memories she and her family shared in the home. Although the objects may be irretrievable, Vasof uses the camera to collect what remains. (Michael Sicinski)
