1998 im Iran: Zwei Schülerinnen, eine davon die Filmemacherin, schicken an die kurzlebige Frauenzeitung „Zan“ das Skript eines „unmöglichen“, die patriarchale Theokratie ins misogyne Mark trefenden Films. In einem assoziativen Panorama aus Zitaten des Skripts, Ausschnitten aus „Zan“, vor allem aber zahllosen Bildern von Frauen in postrevolutionären Filmen von 1982 bis 2006 manifestiert sich der Vernichtungswille des Regimes: Nichts anderes hat es zum Ziel, als die Löschung des Weiblichen – aus dem iranischen Film und aus der Gesellschaft. The latest in the artist’s ongoing exploration of gender in and through Iranian media, Maryam Tafakory’s RAZEH-DEL continues to cite and manipulate fragments of narrative cinema while also incorporating archival material from the short-lived women’s newspaper Zan. A secondary narrative is deftly threaded through these fragments, a tale of two schoolgirls and their subversive cinematic proposal—the “synopsis for an impossible film”— that suggests both love and fire as potential means of liberation and agency.
