Por el dinero

Ums Geldverdienen geht es der Theatertruppe in Moguillanskys Kunstsatire selbstverständlich nicht. Weiß diese doch, dass künstlerisches Schaffen in den Ländern Lateinamerikas schlecht bezahlt wird – und manchmal auch einfach überhaupt nicht. Schließlich handelt sogar das Stück, das die Truppe aufführt, von den Schwierigkeiten des ökonomischen Überlebens im Kapitalismus. Aber muss die Kunst das Leben kosten? Der Film beginnt als Krimi mit mehreren Leichen. Eine Stimme mit französischem Akzent verspricht zu erzählen, wie es mit der Theatertruppe so weit kommen konnte. As in previous films by this Argentinean director, the documentary-like register of a specific activity is reordered into the logic of fiction. On top of that, some completely-fictional sequences are added and it's a departure towards the realm of pure fiction. This is how everything starts: The death of the two main characters, Moguillansky himself and his woman and creative partner, Luciana Acuña, in a Colombian beach From then on, we see an alleged witness, or suspect (a French actor who lives in Buenos Aires and is a fixed part of the cast in the filmmaker’s theater projects) reconstructing the events under interrogation by two police detectives. Divided into three acts and presented as a tragedy, the plot moves on through an accumulation of comic and absurd situations which make clear just how hard is to devote oneself professionally to art in Argentina and the existential poverty associated with committing one’s life to making films or theater. An artist in Colombia provides a commentary both on the images in the movie and on the things happening behind the film: “We work twice as much as a worker, earn half of what a worker earns, and live three or four times better than a worker does.
