Völlig herausgelöst aus Bressons notorischer Ökonomie weiblichen Leidens bahnt sich in den Gesichtern der jungen Frauen eine alternative, offene Lesart von dessen Schauspiel-Theorie des nichtprofessionellen „Modells“ an, das seine Präsenz ohne psychologisierende, sexualisierte Interpretation den Sinnen eines Publikums überantwortet. What remains of a gesture if it is stripped from its original context and performed by another body? Garcia lets three young women run through the motions of Nadine Nortier’s performance in Bresson’s MOUCHETTE. What happens is a small miracle. Each of the street-cast actors expresses individual feelings as the gestures bring us closer to their respective beings, so different from each other despite following the same movements. Bresson already knew this: “If (…) the gestures you have made them make have become one with your models, with your film, with you – then a miracle.“ (Patrick Holzapfel)
