Los mayores ríos se deslizan bajo tierra

Ein Film als Quest, als existenzielle Sinnsuche: Nach einem gescheiterten Casting lässt sich die 21-jährige Schauspielerin Sofí durch das Dickicht der Stadt treiben, filmt ein brennendes Haus, flaniert über einen Flohmarkt und findet vorübergehend Frieden an einem idyllischen Teich im Urwald. Unterschiedliches Filmmaterial, mal grobkörnig, dann wiederum digital hochaufgelöst, gibt den emotionalen Verwerfungen der Protagonistin eine visuelle Kontur. Und eine elektronische Lärmattacke verweist kurz vor Schluss auf unmittelbar bevorstehendes Unheil. (Thomas Mießgang)

Two friends practice archery in a vacant lot. A young acting student sells an old lamp at an urban swap-meet. Then she and a friend leave the city on a moped, going to the country for a swim. Finally, we see her watering a field of strawberries. This is a film of fragments, its meandering narrative matched by its grainy, impressionistic cinematography. While focusing on a single character, Vélez never allows us to get a grip on who she might really be. Colombia has established itself in recent years as a burgeoning film scene, and UNDERGROUND RIVERS indicates that Vélez is someone to watch. (Michael Sicinski)
