Materia vibrante

Es wird ironisch gespiegelt, ineinander geblendet, geflackert und gezoomt. Man sieht die Körner, man merkt Maríns Spaß am Spiel mit seinem 16mm-Material. Und doch gibt es noch eine andere Ebene: Während Motive aus der Stadt – steinerne Wohnburgen, eine quer über die Gasse behängte Wäscheleine, eine ferne Hochschaubahnfahrt, der Trubel des Straßenverkehrs – beeindruckenden Naturbildern entgegengehalten werden, fehlen die Menschen. Was will uns deren Abwesenheit sagen – da doch alles andere so dröhnend und beängstigend lebendig erscheint? (Roman Scheiber)

Pablo Marín’s MATERIA VIBRANTE is a city symphony turned on its head. As the city’s beauty and absurdity comes into focus, nature begins to intrude from the margins, trying to claim the world back. Entering into direct conversation with Jane Bennett’s Vibrant Matter: A Political Ecology of Things, which urges us to abandon “this habit of parsing of the world into dull matter (it, things) and vibrant life (us, beings)”, the film probes the fantastic and terrible cracks between diferent realms via that most vibrant of matters: film (Lucía Salas)
