Schon die Vorsokratiker haben bemerkt: Man kann nicht zweimal in denselben Fluss steigen. Auch Universalgenie Leonardo da Vinci beschwor den linearen Prozess des Vorher zum Nachher im Gegenwärtigen. Friedl vom Gröller freilich lässt derlei Gedanken den Bach runtergehen und hält am Hochwasser führenden Fluss Ticino ihre eigene unnachahmliche Textur des „panta rhei“ dagegen: Alles fließt zugleich überallhin. „Der Augenblick lebt nur in unserem Fleisch; das Gehirn vermag ihn in seltenen Sekunden zu fassen.“ (Friedl vom Gröller) (Roman Scheiber)

The cinema of Friedl vom Gröller has the courage to follow the currents – of water and air, time and montage, words and meanings set adrift. Silent and in black and white, LEONARDO literally “floats” the words of da Vinci in no less than three languages: German, Italian, and English. What da Vinci philosophized about motion and change, vom Gröller embodies in the materiality of the cinematic medium.
