Lucretius ist in der Krise: Seine emotionale Befindlichkeit lässt sich mit der verbreiteten rationalen Sicht auf unsere Welt einfach nicht zur Deckung bringen. Liegt das daran, dass der gebeutelte Dichter aus dem Alten Rom zu stammen scheint, obwohl er sich in der heutigen Gesellschaft bewegt? Der bereits mit Kurzfilmpreisen überhäufte, junge Brasilianer Mouramateus stellt sich hier in eine Tradition des intellektuell-poetischen portugiesischen Kinos, gewinnt ihm aber ganz eigenartige, frische Facetten ab. Pasolini began EDIPO RE in the contemporary world before plunging into the mythic past. Leonardo Mouramateus adopts the same structure for this wry fable, without returning to the present. A modern-day Portuguese couple is about to move to Rome; nearby, a mad poet dances. Then, in a past inspired by Marcel Schwob’s “biographical fiction”, we observe the problems of philosopher-poet Lucretius – increasingly absorbed by the theory of atomic particles, decreasingly able to satisfy his black wife.
