SUNDAY (PROGRAMM: WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIEND)
In 1961, de Antonio graduated from distributor to producer. His first venture was with the short film Sunday, directed by Dan Drasin. The teenage filmmaker edited together 16mm footage he and friends shot of the Washington Square police riot that followed a protested ban on folk singing (!) in the park. The freewheelin, vérité images and wild sound captured the spirit of the early sixties Greenwich Village folk-music scene and the violent intrusion of the police. «De entered the film in various festivals and brokered its distribution overseas», Drasin recalled.
