RAPE

Rape ist der aufwühlendste und verstörendste der konzeptuellen Filme, die Yoko Ono und John Lennon drehten. Wie Fly, in dem eine Fliege eine halbe Stunde lang den nackten Körper einer Frau erforscht, vermittelt Rape eine irritierend körperliche Erfahrung so unverblümt wie sein Titel. Ausgangspunkt ist ein Szenario, das Ono 1968 publiziert hatte: «Ein Kameramann verfolgt hartnäckig ein Mädchen auf der Straße, so lange bis er es in einer kleinen Gasse gestellt hat, und wenn möglich so lange, bis es sich in einer fallenden Position befindet.» Das Resultat, seinerzeit vom Österreichischen Fernsehen ausgestrahlt, ist ein gewalttätiger und sexuell aufgeladener Film, auch wenn keinerlei Körperkontakt stattfindet.

Although the movie now plays like a chilling indictment of the invasiveness of celebrity, Yoko Ono explains that she conceived of it «before I became famous. It wasnt the idea of celebrity at the time, it had more to do with the dialogue we have between the outside world and ourselves. In hindsight, it gave me a shock when I saw the film again, after Johns passing. I thought it was so prophetic. My life was really getting invaded like that. I dont know there may be prophecies or there might be some sort of instinctive understanding of the future, or maybe we create the future.»
