V'16

From January 3 to 13, 1966, Havana will host the Tricontinental Conference. Three hundred Cuban athletes, who have been invited to participate in the tenth sports championship of Central America, transform their ship, which is blocked by the “Yankee” Coast Guard off Puerto Rico, into an extraordinary sports facility. The game of chess, a real Cuban institution, is put in the spotlight by a reportage on the XVII World Olympiad, with Petrosian and Fischer as participants. The hero of the Cuban Revolution, Camilo Cienfuegos, who died 1959, will be honored by a poignant Noticiero portrait. 1967 is named the year of heroic Vietnam. Antiwar demonstrations in Berkeley are impressively illustrated by the Beatles’ song, “Yellow Submarine”. On the occasion of the first of May 1967, Che Guevara’s little daughter on a podium alongside Fidel is shooting photos of the military parade while her father is fighting in Bolivia. A Noticiero team is filming the peasant guerrilla NLA in Columbia.
