Shot in cinemascope in the astonishing, stark, mountainous and often snow covered landscape of Iranian Kurdistan, Niwemang tells the story of a journey. A famous and very wilful old Kurdish singer decides to travel in a ramshackle mini-bus, with his ten sons who are also his musicians, to Iraqi Kurdistan. There, following the fall of Saddam, he will give a celebratory concert. However the essence of this man's music lies in the use of a woman's voice, but women are forbidden to sing in Iran. With a woman on board, they are obliged to travel illegally.
