DARATT
DRY SEASON
Mahamet-Saleh Haroun is recognised as one of the most important contemporary African film-makers. His first feature was Bye Bye Africa and it was followed by the acclaimed Abouna, a sensitive and touching account of two boys in search of their missing father. Like these earlier works, Daratt is deceptively simple, elegant cinematic story telling, but it is rich in implication and relevance. It is a film that asks the same question that Mozart was asking in «La clemenza di Tito»: Are forgiveness and reconciliation possible in our war-torn century? It is a question of great urgency all around the world and particularly in Africa.
