The Wind, One Brilliant Day
In this cinematic rendition of a celebrated short poem by Spanish modernist Antonio Machado, Tang Wei wanders through a lush, multicoloured forest, engaging playfully with the surrounding vegetation. The film employs a range of modalities—from direct observation to more abstract, experimental approaches that incorporate analogue colour separation—to convey the polysemic role of nature in the poem, uniting two of director Ben Rivers’s central concerns: the interplay between poetic and cinematic language, and cinema’s capacity to engage with the non-human.
