Fire Flies

The filmmaker and a companion wander through the forest by night, camera and flashlight in hand: fronds and needles, blades and branches, glistening spider webs, fireflies and distant lights, geese in the water, all captured in eerie green images whose fuzzy pixellation is heightened by the dark. Zheng Lu Xinyuan’s latest short once again showcases her inimitable grasp of digital smudgings and beautifully intuitive montage, opening out from the intimate to the expansive while always radiating the same sense of quiet wonder. This film will be shown as part of the screening Illumination.
