Rojo Žalia Blau

(Dunja Bialas) A sequel to Viktoria Schmid’s 2023 film NYC RGB, ROJO ŽALIA BLAU contains footage shot in Spain, Lithuania and Austria. Where the previous film focused primarily on architecture, this new work has a decidedly sylvan feel, allowing Schmid to explore new possibilities with respect to her three-colour separation technique. Shadows on tree trunks and the hazy penumbra of foliage against the sky result in playful optical illusions that hover on the verge of 3D. As we keep looking, it becomes apparent that these organic forms possess a geometry all their own. (Michael Sicinski)
