Ecce Mole (Photographie und jenseits 36)

Heinz Emigholz continues his Photography and Beyond series with ECCE MOLE, a meticulous study of Alessandro Antonelli’s Casa Scaccabarozzi and Mole Antonelliana in Turin, the latter of which is now home to the Museo Nazionale del Cinema. Through Emigholz’s signature metric montage and slanted framings, the film uncovers the architectural subtleties of the two buildings while also revealing their contemporary functions and surrounding contexts, affirming the cinematic apparatus’ capacity to capture iconic landmarks as they are, unburdened by any monumental symbolism.
