„Was ist das Universum, das Unendliche, die Ewigkeit?“, fragt die Filmemacherin in ihrem jüngsten Werk MATERIA OSCURA und scheint zu überlegen, ob sich die Materie in eine mathematische Gleichung fassen lässt. In MYST hat sie das Geheimnis vielleicht gelöst: Das Universum sei „eine große dunkle Spinne“, wiederholt sie in leichten Variationen. ALEPH hingegen ergründet das Geheimnis unserer Erde in nur einer Minute im Wettlauf mit dem Ticken einer Uhr. AMA-ZONA entwirft einen vielgestaltigen Kosmos auf Basis der Sage vom Volk weiblicher Kriegerinnen: erotisch und kämpferisch zugleich. Schließlich ein Film über Hirschs eigene Welt: WORKSHOP besteht aus nur einer Einstellung, die eine Wand ihres Studios im sich langsam ändernden Tageslicht zeigt. Dazu beschreibt sie zunächst, was man dort sieht, und anschließend, was außerhalb des Bildes liegt: Avantgarde und Autobiografie gleichermaßen. (Lars Penning)

The universe plays a prominent role in Narcisa Hirsch’s work, especially in her later films, where cinema is grasped as a meeting between the body and the eternal or a dialogue between the intimate and the immense. This programme contains films in which Hirsch explores her relationship to time, like ALEPH and AMA-ZONA, while also incorporating eroticism, violence, mortality, and women’s independence. In other films, she focuses on the film material and its mysteries, such as MYST, KOSMOS II LA INCERTIDUMBRE or her latest film MATERIA OSCURA, which is presented here as an International Premiere. Hirsch herself requested that this focus on her cinema finish with WORKSHOP, which is one of her first films, but in her view already contains everything about her oeuvre. A shot of her workshop that changes with the light is accompanied by the artist’s reflections, which sum up her life in 11 minutes. It is an experimental structuralist film that is nonetheless profoundly moving. (Cecilia Barrionuevo)
