Übermalte Fotos, Bilder des Krieges, Philosophiefetzen, Musik und Literatur: Gegliedert in zwei Teile – „ADN, élements fondateurs“ und „IRM, odyssée“ (dt. DNA und MRT) – verdichtet sich Godards letzter Collage-Film vor seinem assistierten Freitod zu einem Kurzessay über Abschied und Tod. Entsprechende Filmausschnitte dominieren die Erzählung; einige stammen aus Godards eigenen Werken (darunter BANDE À PART und WEEKEND), andere aus Filmen von Regisseuren, die ihm etwas bedeuteten, beispielsweise Orson Welles und Roberto Rossellini. Returning to several of the great filmmaker’s lifelong concerns (language, music, art and, of course, cinema), Jean-Luc Godard’s SCÉNARIOS is sufused with a fixation on images of death. The film was completed the week of his passing, and it feels appropriate that a filmmaker so endlessly curious about life would be similarly fascinated by whatever follows it. Having famously declared that a film must have a beginning, middle and end, if not necessarily in that order, one imagines he may have felt similarly about life itself, or at least his own.(Jesse Cumming)
