In schöner Regelmäßigkeit begegnen uns nächtliche frontale Hausansichten wie diese hier im Kino. Hinter jedem Fenster wird anderes Geschehen beleuchtet, die Augen wandern, die Spannung wächst. Mitunter betont so eine Einstellung auch die Vereinzelung oder Entsolidarisierung hinter den Fenstern, eine Art von Synchronität entsteht dann bloß als Reaktion auf ein äußeres Ereignis. Hier ist es das Kreischen und Schreien und Winseln einer offenbar bedrängten Frau. Wie werden die Bewohnerinnen und Bewohner des Hauses auf das Geräusch da unten reagieren? (Roman Scheiber)

After Hitchcock’s REAR WINDOW, after Tati’s PLAYTIME, after ACCIDENCE by Guy Maddin & the Johnsons in V’18 … Once again, we are gazing at a cross-section of urban life in an apartment building, three floors containing twelve rooms with lights that go on and off. But we look through a dirty pane of glass, and what the inhabitants do is mostly banal: smoke, sleep, use a computer – and the soundtrack is deftly ambiguous. Can we locate the snatches of conversations we hear? And there is a woman screaming, maybe for her life, but she is below the windows, somewhere off-screen. Doesn’t anybody care? (Adrian Martin)
