My Name Is Gary

Ich wurde 1906 an den Küsten des Michigan (Indiana) Sees geboren. Ich war eine Stahlstadt. Sie nannten mich die magische Stadt, die Stadt des Jahrhunderts. Aber ich war einer der am stärksten Segregierten Plätze in America. 1968 gab es hier den ersten schwarzen Bürgermeister. Dann, irgendetwas rief die "white flight" und ich wurde eine schwarze Stadt. Heute sagen sie, adss ich eine Geisterstadt bin. Aber ich bin immer noch am Leben und mein Name ist Gary.

I was born in 1906 on the shores of Lake Michigan, Indiana. I was a steel town. They called me the Magic City, the City of the Century. But I was one of the most segregated places in America. In 1968, I saw here the first elected US black mayor. Then, something called the “white flight” and I became a black city. Today they say that I am a ghost town. But I am still alive and my name is Gary.
