Torino Shadow
For his contribution to the Turin Museo Nazionale del Cinema’s anniversary celebrations, Jia Zhangke tells a short story about the homogenising and atomising effects of globalisation. After travelling to the Italian city from China for a reunion with her husband, Ah Zhen (Zhao Tao) finds herself there alone, wandering the streets before entering the famous Mole building. Replete with references and moving from pre-cinema apparatuses to con temporary moving-image technologies, TORINO SHADOW speaks of cinema rediscovered as a source of connection, reflection and awe.
