Nichts kann die rüstige Joy aufhalten, ihr Redeschwall versiegt nicht mal, wenn das Magazin der Kamera leer ist. Die 98-Jährige hat viel zu erzählen. Ihre Liebe zur Musik begann schon im Mutterbauch; noch heute gibt die ehemalige Tänzerin energisch Gesangsunterricht. Um ihre Träume zu verwirklichen, ließ sie ihre repressive Erziehung und eine arrangierte Ehe hinter sich. Silvers Kamera fängt ihr Temperament rastlos ein. Stets an ihrer Seite: Tochter Carol Kane, deren zauberhaft verschrobene Schauspielkunst das US-Kino seit einem halben Jahrhundert bereichert. (Gerhard Midding)

Following their collaboration in BETWEEN THE TEMPLES, Nathan Silver visits Carol Kane and her mother, the incredible 98-year-old Joy. They spend an afternoon together exploring Joy’s unusual life: a dancer, mother and former jazz singer who once decided to spend 20 years in Paris. There aren’t enough rolls of film in the world to capture the wonders of Joy’s home: the quality of the light, the people who come to sing and dance, the different ways of having coffee. In this portrait of someone who has lived for almost a century, life and history are indivisible. (Lucía Salas)
