Between Relating and Use

Mit Laserbeschriftung und Ektachrome-Fotofilm arbeitet diese 16mm-Sensation, welche das grundsätzliche Verhältnis von Subjekt (Künstler/ liebender Mensch) und Objekt (Material/geliebter Mensch) zwar nicht auf den Punkt bringt, dafür aber selten haptisch und haut-nah begreifbar macht. Was liegt zwischen Sich-Beziehen und Benutzen? Muss ich ein (Liebes-) Objekt zerstören, um es lieben zu können? Vorsicht, dies ist kein pornografischer Film im engeren, doch ein hocherotischer im weiteren Sinn, und im allerweitesten ein theoretischer! (Roman Scheiber)

Recent experimental cinema has been inspired by an idea from film theory: the “haptic” realm of feeling, and sensing is marshalled to defeat the excessive certainty and rigidity of conventional, distanced looking. Nazlı Dinçel’s poetic collage reclaims the concept of “fetishism” – in racial politics, but also in intimate relationships – as an open-ended process, mutating and adapting with “the other”. Weaving a web of spoken and written words, colors and darkness, flesh and plants, blood and sex, her film heralds a mode in cinema that moves easily between thought and sensation, obliterating all binary oppositions.
