Behind the camera once again, Chloë Sevigny trains her gaze on a meeting of girlfriends in a haunted house. It’s an experience in testing incredulity, although the movie is not about black magic, but rather the magical, enigmatic female spirit. Sevigny crafts an atmosphere of tension and mystery only to then detonate it via the energy of an extraordinary cast that includes Kate Lyn Sheil, Sheila Vand, and Eleonore Hendricks. Enlightened cats already seem to know these young women’s secrets and witness a rite to ward of the fear of feminine power, making them aware of it and celebrate it. (Eva Sangiorgi)
