<i>The Shepherd</i> is a film demonstrating all the virtues of Kyrgyz documentary filmmaking from the 1960s up to now. The focus is on the country and culture these filmmakers come from. In this case, the director deals with the hard life of shepherds in the Kyrgyz mountains. Many of these young directors went on to make important feature films. (Robert Chesterton)
