The Viennale is proud of being a festival that has time and again been home to some filmmakers who may be considered unmodern or marginal. Amongst others, these include directors as diverse as Klaus Lemke and Jean-Marie Straub, Edgardo Cozarinsky and Manuel Mozos. Time and again, their works have shown them to be modern and vibrant and crucial filmmakers. An outstanding and special case in point is Klaus Wyborny and his latest film, STUDIEN ZU MONET, an intellectual and sensual experience of perception, of cinema and art. The film is no less than a fascinating encounter of cinema and painting, the multifaceted, and patient, and constantly surprising integration of two worlds. A film essay, a question and a statement, and everything in between. A film like no other.
