Sergeant Rutledge

The first Western with an Afro-American as protagonist pursues in the shape of a court drama the case of Sergeant Rutledge, head of an Afro-American cavalry regiment, who is accused of raping and killing a white woman. Even with small gestures Ford exposes the deep-rooted racism of the white settlers and reveals it as a fatal mixture of fright and disdain.
