Lovely Yellow Color
Made during Angela Schanelec’s student days at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin, this short exploration on the movements between image and sound as well as fiction and materiality shows an empty flat while we listen to the actions and emotions supposed to have taken place in it. It’s a story of feeling ill at ease shot in tender 16mm, sparking off a fascinating dialogue between past and present. The films title is based on a quote from Godard’s LE MÉPRIS. When the eponymous colour appears on the screen, a cinema hungry for living in the here and now is born. (Patrick Holzapfel)
