Against the background of everyday life in a military fort the final part of Ford’s cavalry trilogy brings up the topic of a soldier’s unquestioned acquittal – 15 years ago Colonel Yorke followed an order and burnt down the plantation of his wife in the south states. Sacrificing all personal emotions just to be a soldier seems the right path to go down in this movie. But just in the right moment Ford shows us when it’s best to ignore orders and be courageous.
