One of the most exciting filmmakers of current Thai cinema is 1962 born Pen-ek Ratanaruang whose latest film Ploy is a daring, stylized mix of thriller, intimate play, relation drama and mystery movie. It’s the story of the Thai couple Wit and Dang, who have been in the U.S. for several years and who return to Bangkok for a short visit. Still under the effect of the jetlag, they take a room in the luxury hotel at the airport and slowly slip into some sort of mental twilight zone. There, their relationship seems to dissimulate, while surprising emotions and fantasies drift up to the surface. These are triggered by the young, seductive girl Ploy. The film closes with a murderous surprise, half dream, half reality.
