Domingo Faustino Sarmiento's book «Campaña en el Ejercito Grande» is the key signature for this tale, organized around Mercedes Montt, a young Argentinean girl who works as a guide in the Museum of Spanish Art. Mercedes spends her freetime in the apassionate reading of this Sarmientinean text which she applies unprejudicedly to the sentimental and laboural life of her friends.
