On the eve of the Second World War, thousands of Spanish refugees crossed the Pyrenees as they fled from Franco's advance. Antonio Atarès was one of these. Upon his arrival in France, he was interned in a camp in Le Vernet in Ariège. In March 1941, he received a letter from someone he did not know, the philosopher Simone Weil. A correspondence started up between them. On the one hand, a Jewish thinker, engaged in a political and mystical struggle in Marseille, and on the other hand, an anarchist peasant exiled in France, then at the doors of the Sahara, in Djelfa in Algeria.
