Mum's Cards

How did people read, study and learn before the Internet? For noted sociologist Bridget Fowler, mother of the filmmaker, precious knowledge was gradually accumulated by borrowing library books and annotating file cards. Now, after her official retirement, this extraordinary archive of “useless” cards sits in boxes around her home: a testament to the material labour of an intellect. In MUM’S CARDS, we only hear Bridget on the soundtrack; her image is replaced by the camera’s curious probing of this lifelong collection of alphabetically arranged ideas, names and obsessions.
