HISTORIA ADOLESCENTE EN MEDIO DE LA NADA
«Have you noticed that you behave differently when you're with friends than when you are with family?» That is a crucial line in Glue (historia adolescente en medio de la nada). Between friends - a zone of freedom and comfort, but also risk - and family -a much more conflictive zone which also provides some protection -, Lucas spends the summer in Zapala, Neuquén. Seen in a fragmented way, Alexis Dos Santos' film debut offers some dazzling moments of a remarkable realism and overwhelming proximity, such as during the girl-fight, the rock band's rehearsals or bicycle wanderings. But Glue is better seen as a whole, as a poetic-raw, gentle-ferocious teenage chronicle, made with infrequent love and an eye for detail. Perhaps in that fruitful combination of the details and the whole lies the secret of great teenage movies. And Glue (historia adolescente en medio de la nada) states that maybe in the constant oscillation between nothingness and fulfillment is the key to those years, when a youngster is too young to be young.
