Emmanuelle, seventeen, is a calm, quiet teenager living in a Parisian suburb. She observes the things and people around her; behind her black look is an inner strength on hold. This year, she starts senior high school. When the pleasures of childhood lose their appeal and those of adulthood remain out of reach, she is overcome by vertigo, stopped at the edge of life as if facing a chasm. Soon, something terrible and irreparable happens: Her father dies at the start of the school year. Life goes on around this central absence and the story is structured around this emptiness. The issues of her new life are revealed over the fragile course of days in the exploration of everyday life. From now on, behind normal actions, ordinary things and everyday words, lurks the threat of death. (Isabelle Czajka)
