DELWENDE, LÈVE-TOI ET MARCHE

Burkina Faso/F/CH, 2005
Fiction, 90min, OmeU
This film is inspired by the true story of a woman, who was accused of having «eaten a soul» and will be subjected to the elders decree, traditional rules and mental blindness which continue to dictate life in African villages. «The idea of Delwende came from a news report that I made for French nationale television France 2, about these women called soul eaters and the places where they find shelter when they are outcast. I was very frustrated not to be able to show exactly what it was like, as I had very precise guidelines from the broadcaster. The report was shown on Burkina television but, unfortunately, those concerned did not see it. That disappointed me, but it also encouraged me to begin the production of Delwende.» (S. Pierre Yaméogo)
