PERFECT COUPLE, A
After several years spent abroad, Nicolas and Marie return to France to attend the wedding of an old friend. Although the couple is in acrisis they are on the verge of divorce they still go to the ceremony together. Upon arrival, they immediately announce their separation, to the embarassment of their social circle, which pales in comparison to that later felt by Marie and Nicolas when they are together. In his new hommage to French cinéma dauteurs, director Suwa Nobuhiro uses long layered shots to create a kind of narrow stage for the quiet battle of the couple: Once a physical distance is established, they might see themselves more clearly and also each other afresh.
