Jean Luc Godard once wondered why the home movie genre hadn’t had a greater effect on the history of cinema: Maybe because of a common shyness to fully exploit the possibilities of camera and montage? Christoph Schlingensief wasn’t shy at all, seeing the tools of his father as a possibility to perform and fictionalize his own existence, as one can see in this, his first film: “The camera became an extension of his body: I film, therefore I am.”  (Klaus Biesenbach)
