Heavenly Rhymes

In Accettura, southern Italy, two trees are selected each year to be married, in an ancient ritual that has been carried out for centuries. With a natural grasp of duration and framing, debuting filmmaker Angelo Toscano breaks down this oddly contemporary arboreal wedding into a series of ravishing vistas: an solitary ox on a country road, men lashing ropes to lichen-covered bark, a procession through a great landscape, the tiny figures that climb to the very top of the tree and disappear into the upper branches as fireworks bang and pop; human and non-human forever side by side.
