The Grave's Sky
Fifteen years since his retrospective at the Viennale, John Gianvito returns with a film diary that charts his days of lockdown between 2020–2022 in Boston. In a work that he calls a requiem, the quiet compositions of rural animal life and leaves rustling in the wind pay homage to those who passed in the pandemic but also remind us that when life came at a seeming standstill, nature continued apace, perhaps with even greater fervour. The film captures the moments we formerly experienced between activities—scrolling through the news, lounging and going for walks—as they became our primary mode of being. (Julian Ross)
