Faces Of Death

German experimentalist Jan Soldat has created a funny and poignant tribute to one of horror’s greatest leading men. FACES OF DEATH is a found-footage compilation of every moment in which Christopher Lee expires on film. With obvious dedication, Lee developed a unique brand of overstatement that eventually became almost poetic. Whether he drowns, is impaled, shot or simply disintegrates in the sunlight, Lee gives his all. While Soldat presents the clips chronologically, FACES OF DEATH morphs into an abstract catalogue of cinematic gesture, a six-minute tragicomic Wilhelm Scream. (Michael Sicinski)
