Kevin Jerome Everson and Claudrena N. Harold offer a cinematic eulogy to Sylvester “Dooni” James Jr., the legendary singer and “Queen of Disco”. His 1988 funeral at the Love Center Church—led by gospel luminary and preacher Walter Hawkins—becomes the film’s spiritual and sonic centre. Through Hawkins’s soulful words of love and Timothy Johnson’s stirring voiceover, we are drawn into a shimmering realm where dancers move ecstatically in the glittering dark.
