Diorissimo

DIORISSIMO is a tribute to American underground music, which “re-stages” the Velvet Underground song “The Gift”. A Hungarian blonde played by Marietta Méhes has accidentally murdered her husband with a knife. The filmmaker questions her, but instead of talking about the murder, she talks about her looks and different cosmetics and brands—Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent and Paco Rabanne— in place of a confession. In her first film, Méhes already boasts a characteristic acting style. In NŐI KEZEKBEN, Xantus appears as the film’s male protagonist: an assaultive robber, hypnotised youngster and dispassionate family man. Surrounded by his own fantasies of women, he acts like a machine, ending up in the hands of different female archetypes. Between frames, “sex” flashes up in red letters: the filmmaker is caught up in his own male imaginary, but the explicit montage redirects this to the nature of film itself.
