CinematograPHY: János Xantus
Simon, born in 1995 in Budapest, began studying film theory in 2015. During his studies, he discovered a deep passion for film curation and moved to Vienna to further his education at the Austrian Film Museum and the Viennale. Freed from the dry academic style and everyday narrow-mindedness of Hungarian film criticism, he finally found the concepts and examples to articulate his own approach to programming, film selection, and curation.
Back in Budapest, he started organizing independent film screenings and giving lectures in art galleries—showing films that had never before been screened in Hungary. In 2019, he curated the first film series at the Jewish Museum Budapest, a year-long program featuring a diverse selection of films that challenge common stereotypes about Jewish identity.
